Men are estimated to spend the most in post-Christmas sales at £106.73, while women will spend £77.63 during January, British bank Halifax revealed in a new survey. Shoppers in Northern Ireland will spend the least amount of money at £47.

32% of shoppers will also take the opportunity to shop for Christmas 2018, and one in seven (15%) will prepare for the next festive season by buying a Christmas jumper on sale. Shoppers aged 18-34 seem to be the most eager about joining the growing trend of wearing a Christmas jumper to work, and 27% of Brits in the North East said they would buy a Christmas jumper now for next year.

Britons are not only starting to shop for Christmas 2018 but also starting to save. 15% of those surveyed said they plan to start saving towards this year’s Christmas in January, rising to 20% in Wales.

The report also reveals that more than one in three Brits received at least one Christmas gift they didn’t like, but only 7% of Brits return or exchange them, preferring to store them, gift them to a charity shop or re-gift them to someone else.
