Harvey Nichols tests shoe and handbag restoration service

Harvey Nichols has rolled out a special service at its Knightsbridge store that allows customers get their luxury accessories, including products not bought at Harvey Nichols, repaired by a team of specialists.

This is thanks to a partnership with The Restory, an on-demand shoe and handbag restoration service that is trying to extend the life cycle of luxury products and bring fashion repairs 'in' again.

Stylists in Harvey Nichols’ Knightsbridge Shoe and Accessories departments are being trained to receive items for The Restory in-store. The items are shipped within 48 hours to The Restory’s atelier, where craftsmen do a comprehensive assessment of its condition and suggest a repair method.

Once the process has been completed, the items are returned to Harvey Nichols’s Knightsbridge branch or anywhere else in the United Kingdom, making it easier for customers to receive their repaired product.

The partnership comes as more brands take new approaches to tackle the 18,000 million tonnes of textiles that end up in landfills every year. Some of these efforts include a ‘buy-back’ clothing scheme at John Lewis and an upcoming clothing recycling collection service at Asos.

Last month, MPs launched an inquiry into the UK fashion industry’s environmental impact in a bid to make the sector more sustainable.
