Mary Katrantzou Show- Women's collection Spring/Summer 2018 (with interview)

Designer : Mary KatrantzouAtmosphere: Inside the Topshop Space, Mary Katrantzou recalls childhood, ball games, colouring flowers, games, the colours… Collection: All round and voluminous. Childhood shapes reinterpreted through balloon dresses and skirts. Nylon becomes central just like backroom games through essentials like raincoats and overcoats. The colours go from fluorescent to a vibrant palette, the designs from check to oversized flowers. The precise work of Mary Katrantzou is always spectacular with enlarged prints, pearl effects and recreated Lego, just as bracelets are transformed into fringe, all is handmade. To note: Accessories such as children’s plastic sandals are transformed into chic silver shoes or again, armbands become handbags. Mary Katrantzou InterviewIt was kind of a looking back at what is part of the brand and seeing where you want to bring it into the future and actually looking back at childhood and purity of all the ideas you wanted to experiment with and they become the building blocks of your creativity when you’re a child. But viewing it as an adult and making sure the execution is on a craftsmanship level that is exquisite. You’re pushing on innovation and you’re looking at silhouettes that are light. My work is so much about embellishment and print and colour. I wanted to show both sides so silhouettes that are quite restrained and pulled into the waist and very linear but then releasing that and allowing them to breathe and have movement. I felt I wanted the collection to have a level of escapism and a lot of joy and a lot of colour and a lot of happiness.
