Balmain names Tancrède de Lalun as new group director of merchandising

Balmain has appointed Tancrède de Lalun to be its new group director of merchandising at the Paris-based fashion house.

A graduate of the Institut Français de la Mode, de Lalun has lengthy experience working in the merchandising and luxury goods.

Earlier in his career,  de Lalun worked for Louis Vuitton Malletier as worldwide retail merchandiser for Leather Goods and Accessories; and did a stint at Loewe as senior vice president Merchandising.

His most recent position was as global merchandising director at Maison Margiela. A noted figure around the Paris fashion scene, de Lalun was also the fashion director of men’s wear and womenswear for Paris department store Printemps.

The executive’s appointment is effective on December 1st, 2020. He will report to Jean-Jacques Guével, who was named CEO of Balmain this time last year. De Lalun succeeds Olivier Germain, in the latest management change at Balmain.

“In his new role, Tancrède is responsible for defining the Merchandising strategy and policy for all the brand's products and its deployment in all the countries where Balmain operates,” the house said in a release.

Balmain, which has enjoyed rapid growth over the past decade under the creative direction of designer Olivier Rousteing, is owned by Mayhoola, an investment vehicle of the Qatari royal family.
