Deichmann is ploughing £600,000 into its shop at Whitefriars shopping centre to become the largest shoe retailer in Canterbury.

The store is undergoing a significant refurbishment, including a full redesign and expansion into a second floor which was previously used solely for storage. This will see the store double in size and facilitate the introduction of almost 800 new styles, completing a total of almost 2,000 lines of shoes available at the Whitefriars location.

"We’re very excited about our new look store, and extra space, at Whitefriars and we can’t wait to show it off,” said Gavin Turner, store manager of Deichmann Canterbury.

“We jumped at the chance to convert the space, not only to give our customers more choice, but also to make their time in-store as easy and enjoyable as possible.”

The makeover will also introduce a more convenient shop fit, with all shoes and sizes available on the shop floor to eliminate customer wait time.

Peter Scutt, centre manager of Whitefriars, said: “We’re thrilled that we can now call Whitefriars the home of the largest shoe retailer in Canterbury. Refurbishments like Deichmann’s mean we’re able to offer customers a world standard shopping experience, and that really is something to be proud of.”

Based in Essen, Germany, Deichmann is Europe’s largest shoe retailer. It has over 100 stores in the UK, including flagships in Westfield London and Westfield Stratford.

The company recently reopened a new store in Blackfriars following a refurbishment.
