For the 2020 spring-summer season, the Desigual label has caused a stir with the relaunch of an iconic piece from the brand's wardrobe, "The 86," a handcrafted jacket made from a wide range of different fabric and clothing scraps. Presented in a recreation of the original version, the jacket is being modeled by rapper and performance artist Mykki Blanco, who has teamed up with the brand to emphasize the importance of change.

Created in 1986 in one of Desigual's first stores in Ibiza, "The 86" quickly became one of the ready-to-wear brand's most iconic jackets. Now making a comeback to the delight of Desigual fans, the new 86 benefits from a production process that has remained unchanged since the launch of the first model just over 34 years ago.

Made entirely of cotton, the oversized long-sleeved jacket attained cult status for its handcrafted design. Distinguished by a high collar and patches made from scraps of old denim, it also features images of Mickey and Minnie Mouse and a Desigual crest from the 1980s.

For the relaunch of the iconic piece, Desigual has called on the services of rapper, poet and activist Mykki Blanco, who wears the jacket in multiple ways. The artist also took advantage of the opportunity to engage with Desigual on the importance of embracing constant change. "One of humanity's plagues is to constantly feel unworthy, like you're not enough. This is combatted through thinking, through action, through change... I don't think there's anything in this world that can't be changed just slightly for the better," pointed out the Californian-born artist.

"The 86" is available online from Desigual.com at a price of €249.95.
