Expanding Hut Group adds 500 new jobs

The jobs picture in the UK may be bleak at present, but some ever-expanding businesses are adding new permanent roles and on Friday The Hut Group said it was creating 500 jobs.

The Manchester beauty-retail-to-technology business, said the new jobs will start between now and the end of the year across its business in the North West of England, as it approaches its peak trading period. 

The company, which recently listed on the London Stock Exchange, has already added 2,000 jobs in the past 12 months, and is an important employer in a region of England currently facing the highest level of coronavirus restrictions.

The majority of positions will be in the group’s technology services division, THG Ingenuity.This has seen rapid growth in demand over the past 12 months as more external businesses use it to power their webstores.

Founder and CEO Matthew Moulding said that the current period of uncertainty “has led to an unprecedented opportunity for THG to add to our exceptionally talented workforce. Our headquarters are in Manchester, and this recruitment drive will create sustainable and rewarding jobs for people across the North West, and will provide opportunities for all ages, backgrounds and abilities.”  

THG said it’s also working with local partners “to launch an in-house Skills Academy, to retrain people who are out of work as a result of the ongoing pandemic and offer them sustainable employment”.

The company employs 8,000 people in total around the world.
