Interest among men in grey joggers has soared, not just as a response to the pandemic but as part of the wider athleisure and casualisation trends.

That’s according to Google Trends data released by BoohooMan, which said that searches for the popular item have risen 256% in the last three years.

And it believes they’ll peak again in the months ahead with the October to December period being key for the category. Peak searches came during the fourth quarter last year.

BoohooMan also said that TikTok views for #greyjoggers have hit a massive 36.7 million and that Twitter discussion of the item tends to peak in Q4.

Coming days after it was revealed the M&S has stopped selling men’s suits at many of its stores as menswear becomes increasingly casual, it seems grey joggers are joining jeans as the default first-choice pieces for many men.

John McKinney, Head of Digital Marketing at BoohooMan said: “It looks like joggers are overtaking the suit and tie for the apparel most likely to get you some attention when walking down the street. The pandemic seems to have swapped our tastes from formal to functional. Last year [we] saw a massive spike in interest for grey joggers on our website around the turn of autumn. We put that down to everyone deciding to swap their shorts for something a bit warmer that covers their calves. However, looking at this data, there might be more to it than that.”
