Kate Spade, the luxury fashion and lifestyle brand, has selected Hammerson’s Bullring shopping centre to open a new UK store.

The internationally renowned American brand has opened a 1,500 sq ft store on the upper level of the shopping centre, taking up residence next to Selfridges

The new shop is one of only a handful of standalone locations for the brand in the UK, including a flagship store on London’s Regent Street.

Founded by its namesake in 1993, the label is known for its line of designer handbags, quirky design and colourful aesthetic. Kate Spade, the late fashion designer, left the brand in 2006 and the business is now owned by American multinational Tapestry Inc, which also owns Coach and Stuart Weitzman.

In keeping with the retailer’s playful design sensibilities, the new store features pink walls, velvet seating and ultra-luxe fittings. In addition to the brand’s handbag collection, shoes, jewellery, homewares and tech accessories are all stocked at the store.

Kate Spade is not the only brand opening a new store at the Bullring this month. Peloton, the global fitness platform, has announced plans to open its first West Midlands showroom in the Birmingham shopping centre this week.

Iain Mitchell, UK commercial director at Hammerson, commented: ”Today’s announcement really highlights the continued popularity of destinations like Bullring & Grand Central, to both brands and customers. While the retail sector is undoubtedly challenging at the moment, it’s clear that the strongest locations remain in demand, and that brands with a unique offer, like Kate Spade and Peloton, can still succeed.”
